Not Quite Done...

Posted by kerilee on May 19, 2010 at 8:14 PM

Even though we worked hard we still did not get done there were too many trees to get rid of and we had to haul them over the fence and walk them a little ways away from the cemetery one by one. That is what took so long we did get a little bit of cleaning done but not as much as we thought we would. We got the complete first row clear all the way across. Jessie Wells Woodrad can see sunlight for once. I thank Mr. Henry, Danny, and Shannon for coming out and helping today bright and early. We are going to break for a week  or so and then go again and hopefully finish this next time. Anyone who would like to help this next time is welcome to but after we finish the cleaning we really won't be able to do much until we find a old layout of the cemetery. But besides that I will maintain it and keep it clear of all debree. We need donations of old fence posts and boards for a new front gate and fence hopefully. Also eventually if we can't identify where people are buried we will need donations of any old bricks and mortar to make some new headstones and footstones for the cemetery. Until next time please contact us and give us feedback.

Keri, I commend you on you efforts to clean up and preserve the family heritage. I am of Woodard descent also, on my mothers side. I am tracing my tree back, but have hit a road block that it seems yours has gone past. My gggrandfather was William L. Woodard born in Wilcox County, Ga. in June 1855, died in Lake County, Fl. April 1910.. His mother was Mary Woodard, (maiden ?) born in 1823 in Georgia, died in 1924 in Worth County, Ga. Have not been able to find any birth record for William, or marriage record for Mary to find out who William's father is to go back any further. Good luck on your project and tree hunting, and again I commend you on efforts to keep family heritage going. Thomas Cassidy

P.S. I am on Ancestry.com also with the tree listed under Cassidy. My name on there is Sthrngentlman65, if you want to look it up.

Hi kiddos, I accidentally came upon your website. I wanted to THANK YOU kind souls who are braving bugs & briars for the sake of our ancestors' lost graves. I descend from Reuben Warren & Polly Ann Woodard. There is precious little on the web about them or their lives. You said their old homestead was close by; is anything left there?
I live in Florida but I wish I was closer to pitch in on this worthy project. I'll be happy to send some money to help purchase the posts, bricks, mortar, etc. when the time comes. I'll be watching your progress thru your posts & photos. You guys are great!

Noticed your Jacob and Fereby Stringer Woodard, I have a Jacob Woodward who died on September 5, 1809 (no birth year but he was born in Scotland). He had two wives, the first was Sarah and three of their children were Henry b. about 1754; Rhoda b. about 1765 and Hartwell b. between 1760 - 1770.
His second wife was Pherebe Drew, they had 6 children one was my 3rd great grandfather Michael. The family bible had the name spelled both as Woodard and Woodward.

I would like to know if you have a family tree on ancestry.com, and may I look at it. I have recently found out my great-great grandfather's name, William Woodard. He married Bettie Norton, and his son James Woodard (my great grandfather). but that is all that I know. My great-grandfather's death certificate did not list his parents birthdates or place of birth.

before you remove all of the trees, you should map there locations and collect tree ring data on each. it can help you crate a timeline on the known graves. ...just a thought. I am a descendant of Jesse James Woodard and nee Susan P. Joiner

Keri & Miles,

I am happy to see this project nearing completion. In 2000 I found myself in Dublin, GA and went looking for some of my Woodard ancestry. I did find the entrance to the 'Woodard Family Cemetery', off a lime-rock road, but was unable to penetrate to the actual Cemetery itself. I knew my ancestors were there but never got to see this place.

I thank you for doing what I did not have the time and where-with-all to accomplish then.

My family line comes through Young (b. 1774), then his son Thomas Young (b. 1799), his grandson Benjamin (b.? d. 1862) and then great grandson Samuel Young Woodard (b. 1848)

With Thanks for your efforts,

Clyde D Woodard
